Understanding Your Carts

Green Cart

Collected: Weekly

ALL food scraps (meat, bones, dairy), yard waste, food-soiled paper like napkins and pizza boxes

✓ Combined organics collected every week

Blue Cart

Collected: Bi-weekly (every 2 weeks)

Paper, cardboard, plastic containers, metal cans, cartons. Must be empty, clean, and dry. Place items unbagged.

✗ No plastic bags or glass in blue cart!

Black Cart

Collected: Bi-weekly (alternates with blue)

Residual waste that cannot be recycled or composted. Collected on opposite weeks from blue cart.

Glass Bin

Collected: Bi-weekly (same as blue cart)

Empty, clean glass bottles and jars only. Introduced June 2025. Remove lids (lids go in blue cart).

Note: Broken glass, light bulbs, cookware not accepted

Important Cart Set-Out Rules:

Place carts at curb by 7:00 AM on collection day
Do not set out the night before (wildlife safety)
Space carts 1 meter apart for truck access
Lids must be fully closed (no overflowing)

Quick Tips

Reduce Contamination

Empty and rinse all containers. Keep plastic bags out of your blue cart. When in doubt, leave it out!

Use EPR Programs

Electronics, batteries, paint, and hazardous items have free drop-off programs. Never put these in carts!

Compost Everything

All food scraps, yard waste, and even food-soiled paper go in your green cart. Reduce what goes to landfill!
